How your average star rating is calculated

There are two types of review on VouchedFor:

• Client reviews from full clients

• First impressions from people who have met you but aren’t yet clients

Client reviews count in full. First impressions count as half a review. This means client reviews have more influence on your overall rating.

Example

An adviser has 50 client reviews and 50 first impressions.

• Client reviews: 30 × 5★ and 20 × 4★ = 230 stars from 50 reviews

• First impressions: 20 × 5★, 10 × 4★, 10 × 3★ and 10 × 2★ = 190 stars from 50 reviews.

  • First impressions count as half, so they contribute 95 stars from 25 reviews.

Average: (230 + 95) ÷ (50 + 25) = 325 ÷ 75 = 4.33★

Why the weighting matters

A simple unweighted average would give 420 ÷ 100 = 4.20. The weighting gives client reviews more influence, so the overall rating moves closer to this adviser’s client-review average (4.6) than their first-impression average (3.8).
